What is a Neck Lift?

A Neck Lift, also known as a Lower Rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure that improves visible signs of aging in the jawline and neck. The process involves making an incision across the jawline from ear to ear, repositioning the excess skin, and surgically repositioning it after the excess skin is trimmed away. Liposuction may be involved to remove subcutaneous fat from the neck area.

Deep Plane Neck Lift

A deep plane facelift is a facial surgery where the SMAS, a layer of connective tissue underneath the facial skin, is lifted to tighten the cheekbones, jawline, and neck. A deep plane facelift achieves tighter skin, defines the facial features, and reduces elasticity in the neck. Out of the different types of facelifts, the deep plane facelift is the most effective – yielding results that make patients look 12-15 years younger. It also restores the cheek area to its original position and improves the hollowness in the lower eyelid.

First Steps

What’s the first step?

The first step to getting a Neck Lift is to call our office for a consultation. During the consult, Dr. Ingram will assess your needs and desired outcome, and determine the best course of treatment. He will look over your medical history, and tell you more about the treatments he uses that can benefit you. The consultation is also your opportunity to ask questions about the treatment options so that you can make an informed decision.

After you have been determined to be a good candidate for the surgery and you wish to proceed, Dr. Ingram will create your procedure plan, and our Patient Coordinator will help you choose your surgical date. We will also provide you with a list of instructions to follow to make your surgery as successful as possible.

What to expect on the day of Neck Lift surgery

On the day of your appointment, Dr. Ingram will walk you through the surgery process, as discussed during your consultation. You will then be administered anesthesia to minimize discomfort and any pain.

Once you are sedated, Dr. Ingram will make the appropriate incisions. Depending on the degree of change you’d like to see, your neck lift choices include a traditional neck lift incision or a limited incision neck lift.

A traditional neck lift incision often begins in the hairline at the level of the sideburn, continues down and around the ear, and ends in the posterior hair. Fat may be sculpted or redistributed from the jowls and neck. The tissue underlying the neck skin is repositioned, and commonly the underlying muscle is tightened. Skin is redraped over the uplifted contours and excess skin is trimmed away. A separate incision under the chin is often necessary for liposuction of this area and repair of the muscle. Sutures or skin adhesives close the incisions.

Once Dr. Ingram is finished, a bandage will be gently placed around your face and neck to minimize swelling and bruising. We will then move you to the recovery room where we will monitor you until you come out of sedation.

Neck Lift recovery

After you are released from our care, you will be able to return home to recover more comfortably. We advise our patients to arrange a ride home with a friend or family member as you will still be under the effects of your anesthesia. A thin tube may be present to drain any excess blood or fluid that may collect under the skin, depending on how big or small the incision is. We will provide you with specific instructions that include how to care for the surgical site and drains, medications to apply or take orally to aid healing, specific concerns to look for at the surgical site, and when to make a follow-up appointment.

It is important to keep your head elevated above your heart to minimize swelling and to keep your head straight (no excessive twisting or bending of the neck). We advise you not to apply any ice to the surgical areas, as this can compromise blood flow as well as the overall results of your procedure. You will need to avoid excessive force, abrasion, or motion during the time of healing. Try to avoid wearing any clothing that must go over your head.

Neck Lift Cost

How much does a Neck Lift cost in Nashville, TN?

The cost of a Neck Lift in Nashville will depend on your surgery. The incision type, the amount of liposuction needed, whether you are opting for a deep plane neck lift or traditional neck lift, and the amount of excess skin being trimmed will all factor into your overall price. When you discuss your surgery with Dr. Ingram, he will assess your case and determine what you will be paying on the day. We offer financing options for all our patients.
