What is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a plastic surgery procedure that is performed by a trained plastic surgeon, such as Dr. Ingram. The procedure uses suction to remove the aforementioned stubborn pockets of fat from specific body areas. Patients who decide to get liposuction are typically trying to treat common problem areas like the stomach, hips, thighs, buttocks, or arms. It involves making an incision on the treatment area, and then inserting a cannula so that a suction tool can be used to extract the fatty tissue. Through the process of contouring, it can help you achieve a slimmer and more proportional body shape.

Who are The Best Candidates for Liposuction?

Dr. Ingram performs Liposuction on male and female clients, who are looking to rejuvenate areas of the body that do not respond to diet and exercise. If you are choosing to undergo this plastic surgery procedure for yourself and only yourself, you might be a good fit. Dr. Ingram looks for patients who:

  • Are at stable body weight
  • Maintain a realistic expectation for the procedure
  • Currently have no other major medical issues that could impair the results of this surgery.

It’s important to note up front that liposuction is not a treatment for obesity, cellulite, or a substitute for proper diet and exercise.

What are the Benefits of Liposuction?

The benefits of a Nashville Liposuction are wide-ranging, especially for body contouring. They can include:

  • Smoother curves
  • More proportionate features
  • Firmer skin
  • Reduction of stretch marks
  • Slimmer appearance
  • Improved self-confidence
  • The ability to wear flattering clothing
  • An attractive physique overall

If these are some of the attributes you are looking for out of a surgical procedure, call us today to learn more about how liposuction can benefit you.

First Steps

What’s The First Step?

If you are interested in learning more about Liposuction in Nashville and finding out if you are a good candidate, the first step to getting started is to book a consultation with Dr. Ingram. During this session, he will assess the areas of your body you have the most trouble with, where the stubborn pockets of fat are, and which features could benefit the most from contouring. You will also have the chance to ask questions, express concerns, and get an idea of the kind of results you can expect. Dr. Ingram will show you some before and after images and may take images of your body to map out where the contouring can take place. After the consultation, if you have been confirmed as a good fit for this surgery, our patient coordinator will be on standby to help you schedule your surgical appointment.

Before your surgery appointment, Dr. Ingram and his team will take you through a list of instructions to prep your body. You may have to avoid taking blood thinners a few days before surgery and fast for a specific period of time. These instructions also remind all surgical patients to arrange transportation to and from our clinic, as you will be in a delicate state and not fit to drive after your procedure.

What to Expect on the Day of Liposuction Surgery

On the day of your appointment, we will get you comfortable in our friendly, clean, and inviting clinic while Dr. Ingram explains the techniques he will be using on your body.

As discussed in your consultation from the photos he took, he will make the same markings on the areas of your body being treated by liposuction.

To begin, a type of anesthesia will be administered to keep you comfortable throughout. Depending on how extensive your surgery is, you will either have a local anesthetic where you can still be awake, or general anesthesia which puts you to sleep.

Next, Dr. Ingram makes the incisions on the specific areas. He will work on one area at a time.

A cannula, which looks like a thin, hollow tube, is inserted into the incision site and moved back and forth in a rhythmic motion to loosen the fatty tissue. A surgical vacuum or syringe attached to the cannula is finally used to extract the tissue.

These are the techniques Dr. Ingram will choose from based on the area of your body being treated:

  • In traditional liposuction, a cannula is inserted under the skin to break up the fat. A high-pressure vacuum is applied to the cannula to remove the fat from the body.
  • Power-assisted liposuction uses a vibrating cannula to break up stubborn fat into smaller pieces, making it easier to remove.
  • Ultrasound-assisted liposuction (UAL) uses ultrasonic vibrations to create a high amount of energy to dissolve the fat.
  • Laser-assisted liposuction is similar to UAL, except that it uses a laser to dissolve the fat.
  • Water-assisted liposuction uses a pressurized stream of saline to loosen fat cells.

Once the desired amount of fat is extracted, Dr. Ingram will close the incisions using sutures or glue. Our caring staff will then take you into a dedicated recovery area as the anesthesia wears off. Once you are ready to return home, we will go over a detailed set of guidelines to help you through the recovery period.

Liposuction Recovery

After your surgery, you can expect some pain, swelling, and bruising. Dr. Ingram may give you medicine to help control the pain and to lower the risk of infection.

Depending on the specifics of your procedure, Dr. Ingram may leave your incisions open or put in temporary drains to help fluid drain out of your body. You might also need to wear compression garments for a few weeks as the incisions heal. It is important to follow the post-operative recovery instructions from Dr. Ingram to ensure a smooth healing process and amazing results.

Taking some time off work is generally advised following your surgery, as well as avoiding strenuous activities and movements. It is normal to experience fluctuation in the shape of your body as the newly contoured areas settle into position.

Liposuction Cost

How Much Does Liposuction Cost in Nashville, TN?

The cost of Liposuction in Nashville can range in price based on the specifics of your surgery. We calculate the price based on:

  • The area of the body being treated
  • Amount of surface area and fat being taken out
  • How many areas on the body you are looking to treat
  • Whether you combine liposuction with another procedure
  • How long the surgery will take

Dr. Ingram assesses each of these factors in great detail during your consultation to determine the specifics of your procedure. From there, our patient coordinator will reach out to let you know the price and schedule your appointment if you wish to begin the process.
